Home visits requests will usually be assessed via a telephone call by the GP and only be provided at the GPs discretion. This not only ensures that the GPs time is used efficiently but it may be safer and more appropriate for a patient to have a direct emergency Admission rather than waiting for a GP to see them.
Patients are requested to telephone early morning if a visit is needed. Please give the receptionist as much information as possible to enable the doctor to allocate priority.
Please remember that several patients can be seen at the surgery in the time it takes to do a home visit. Therefore a visit request will not automatically mean that the patient will be visited. The symptoms may be discussed between the GP and patient/family by telephone and acted upon accordingly at the discretion of the GP.
